We craft and tell stories because we’ve stood on the uncertain edge between the waking world and our imagination, between enchantment and fear. And we remember other stories that help us build our own stories, scraps of lumber and fragments of narrative we gather together to make stories for ourselves.

Poetry Book: Seven Ways to Prune a Grapefruit

We’re pleased to announce the launch of our new line of poetry and fiction volumes. This is mythic arts with a twist; we’re publishing titles that question, redefine, and reinvent mythic and folkloric art forms. We’re really excited about this: we’ve got titles coming out from writers like Claire Dean and Jane Yolen, we’re working with some great artists, and the books themselves are going to be beautiful.

So let me tell you how this is going to work: Each title will be initially released as a limited edition deluxe hardback. These limited editions will be beautifully made, great for reading and collecting, designed with an eye for the physical object of the book. And they will be available as pre-order only. There will be a six-week pre-ordering window for each title, during which anyone who wants to can pay for as many copies as they wish. When that window closes, we will proceed with printing and shipping the book. We will only print as many copies as have been ordered; that will be the total  run of the edition. While certain titles may later be released in paperback and e-book editions, the hardbacks are a one-shot game. These will be beautiful, one-of-a-kind editions, so if you see something you want, don’t miss your chance to get it.

Seven-Ways-Cover-FinalOur first title, Seven Ways to Prune a Grapefruit, is a collection of poetry by Johnny Wink. You may know him as the author of ‘Great Gray Moles’, the poem in UW 1:1, ‘Wonder Voyages’—that’s a pretty good example of what this book is like: it’s funny, it’s weird, it’s profound. With an introduction by Joshua C. Richards and cover art by Peter J. Herron, Seven Ways to Prune a Grapefruit is an uncanny tour-de-force, full of understated erudition and startling wordplay. Full information is available here. Orders will be accepted from now until August 19. 2013. Estimated delivery: mid-September 2013.

    1. Hi Arlene, please email sales[at]unsettlingwonder[dot]com explaining your situation. They should be able to help you out. A limited number of remainder copies may be available, but they’re going fast. Alternatively, keep an eye on our website–if there’s sufficient interest we may bring out a softcover edition in the spring.

  2. I was a student at OBU and just heard about Johnny Wink’s book. I would love to buy a copy, and I’m sure my three sisters would too.
